Bill Marrett is a counselor and psychotherapist serving individuals, couples, families and groups. He operates a private practice, Marrett Counseling Service in Louisville, Ky. In his work, Bill focuses on the emotional, relational, spiritual and developmental concerns that have emerged in a person's life from their experiences, and within the situations and challenges that they are facing in life.
Because most people recognize various spiritual implications of their concerns as they discover the meaning of them, Bill aims to assist his clients in deepening thier spiritual beliefs and convictions by utilizing a Christian biblical worldview and a Christ-centered relational approach to empowering them to make changes as needed to build up faith, hope and love - in order to live effectively with serentity, integrity and courage in all their circumstances and relationships.
Bill also provides consultation, training and supervision for faith-based lay counselors.
Education:
Bill attended Young Harris College in Northeast Georgia and graduated with an Associate of Science degree in 1973; then studied at the University of Georgia through 1974. Bill continued his undergraduate work at the University of Louisville from 1976 to 1979; and during that time Bill started a construction business which he operated until 2005. Bill completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Louisville, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2003, in order to enter Southern Seminary’s clinically oriented Pastoral Counseling program in 2004. Bill graduated with a Masters of Divinity in Pastoral Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2006, and began his counseling practice as a Marriage and Family Therapist Associate in February, 2007, becoming fully licenesed for independent practice as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Kentucky in 2009.
During 2007, Bill continued his counseling studies at the University of Louisville which allowed him to pursue a second licensure status as a Licensed Professional Counselor, which he began in March 2008.
Bill has completed 120 hours of Practioner Level Training in Neuro-Linguistics Programing (NLP). He continues NLP studies and its thereutic applications through an Ericksonian Hypnosis approach to the therapeutic use of trance for assiting and promoting therapeutic change. Bill is also exploring contemporary brain science research related to emotional, relational, behavioral and spiritual therepeutic change, especially through the emerging discipline of Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB).
